Celebrating Saint-Jean in Europe ⚜️🌍 Where to Mark June 24 When You're Quebecois

Fêter la Saint-Jean en Europe ⚜️🌍 Où célébrer le 24 juin quand t'es Québécois

On June 24, you're supposed to be outside with your friends, a beer in hand, Harmonium on the speakers, and a surge of pride that hits you in the gut. But you're in Europe. No bonfires. Nobody knows "Gens du pays." And your French neighbour thinks Saint-Jean is just a first name.

That doesn't mean you don't celebrate.

🗼 Paris — The biggest QC community in Europe

The Délégation générale du Québec

Every year, the Délégation générale du Québec in Paris hosts an official event for June 24. Cocktails, Quebec music, speeches, and above all: 200–300 Quebecois in one place. It's the event you can't miss.

How to stay informed: Follow the Délégation du Québec en France Facebook page. They usually announce 2–3 weeks ahead.

Canadian bars

The Moose (6th) and the brand-new La Quebecoise restaurant (12th) usually organize something for Saint-Jean. Quebec beer, festive atmosphere, and the chance to shout "BONNE SAINT-JEAN" without anyone giving you a weird look.

Fête de la musique (June 21)

Fun fact: France's Fête de la musique falls on June 21 — three days before Saint-Jean. Many Quebec expats combine both. You celebrate music on the 21st, then roll into Saint-Jean on the 24th. A long weekend of celebration.

Facebook gatherings

Search for " Canadiens à Paris " on Facebook — the group organizes special happy hours for June 24 every year. Often in a park or a bar, relaxed vibe, and you meet other expats.

🍺 Brussels — Diplomatic Saint-Jean

The Délégation générale du Québec in Brussels hosts its own celebration too. In 2025, it was at the Grand Hospice de Bruxelles — a beautiful venue to celebrate in style.

Brussels has a smaller Quebec community than Paris, but a tight-knit one. Events are intimate, warm, and you always end the night with 15 new contacts.

🎸 London — Saint-Jean at the Garden Bar

The Délégation du Québec in London celebrates June 24 as well. In 2025, it was at the Garden Bar on June 21. Cocktail-networking format with Quebecois from all walks of life living in the UK.

🔥 Spain — San Juan (June 23–24)

Plot twist: in Spain, San Juan is a MASSIVE celebration. Bonfires on the beach, music until dawn, fireworks. It's the night of June 23 to 24. Not exactly Quebec Saint-Jean, but the energy is there. And a good excuse to celebrate too.

If you're in Barcelona, Valencia, or Alicante on June 23 — get out there. It's magical.

🎒 How to celebrate when there's nothing around you

No Délégation in your city? No Quebec bar? No problem. Here's the survival kit:

  • Music: Spotify playlist "Fête nationale du Québec" — Harmonium, Beau Dommage, Cowboys Fringants, Cœur de pirate
  • Food: Homemade poutine (see our article on where to find cheese curds in Europe)
  • Vibe: Invite your local friends. Explain what Saint-Jean is. Get them to sing "Gens du pays" even if they don't understand a word
  • Look: Wear blue and white. Or better: wear a Khimera tee that shows your Quebec pride
